Bradford Museums and Galleries
Jobtitle: Curator (Exhibitions)
Sonja Kielty is currently Curator (Exhibitions), Cartwright Hall Art Gallery, Bradford Museums and Galleries
I graduated in BA (Hons) Art and Design in 1993, and my AMA in 2001. I completed a Post Grad Certificate MBA in 2006.
The Curator (Exhibitions) is based at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery, concentrating on the programme of temporary exhibitions filling the galleries primarily on the ground floor. This post also provides programming and support for temporary exhibitions at Bradford Museum’s other sites – Manor House Art Gallery and Museum, Ilkley; Cliffe Castle Museum, Keighley; Bradford Industrial Museum.
I graduated in Fine Art and Design from Bradford University, specialising in printmaking and textile design. Following 2 years of creating and selling my own designs and artwork, my first curatorial post was as Visual Art Assistant to Bradford University’s Gallery II. After 4 years, I moved post to Bretton Hall’s National Arts Education Archive and Gallery in Wakefield as Curator and Archivist. 3 years later I became part of the Special Collections team at the Brotherton Library and University Art Gallery at Leeds University. Curating and devising education programmes for the gallery space as well as digitising and supporting the varied collections and manuscripts held within the University Library collections. After 3 years I gained my role within Bradford Museums – my first position in a local authority and still love it today!
Bradford District is home to some of the most exciting museums and galleries in Yorkshire. From the Edwardian splendour of Cartwright Hall Art Gallery to the intimacy of Ilkley’s Manor House Museum and Art Gallery.
Specialist museums like Bradford Industrial Museum and Keighley’s Cliffe Castle Museum bring our District’s history and heritage to life through ever-changing displays.
